Blooms April - June Leaves Opposite, much longer than wide
Habitat Chaparral, woodlands    

Particularly when just starting to bloom, the colors on these flowers can be quite striking -- almost irridescent. These flowers can be found on low bushes on dry hillsides. The plant is said to have astringent and diuretic properties.
