Family Mallow (Malvaceae) Height 6-24"
Color Pale to deep pink with white stripes Flowers Five petals 1/2 to 1" long. Many along the stem usually tending to one side.
Blooms March - May Leaves Highly variable. Slightly to deeply lobed.
Habitat Grasslands, woodlands, scrub.    

Also called Checkerbloom. Alternate spelling of scientific name -- Sidalcea malviflora

The Coast Miwok used the seeds for pinole, a ground meal.[1]
